"7.1 RenameDelay" is an application which will allow the user to modify the System 7.1 Finder in order to set a shorter timeout when renaming a file. Normally, the Finder will not highlight the filename or enable the filename textedit box until 2 x DoubleClick clock ticks have expired. At the fastest mouse doubleclick setting, this works out to be about 40 clock ticks (or 2/3 of a second). I don't know about you, but I hate to wait for anything. "7.1 RenameDelay" will allow you to change the Finder's timeout to none, 1/8 of normal, 1/4 normal, 1/2 normal, 3/4 normal, or reset it back to the standard timeout. I've Included the THINK C project and source code in case anyone is interested. To change the Finder's Rename Delay timeout, do the following:
1. Open the System Folder, select the Finder icon, and select Duplicate (Cmd-D) from the File Menu. This will create a file called "Finder Copy".
2. Double-Click on the "7.1 RenameDelay" application. Select "Locate Finder" button.
3. In the Standard File dialog, locate the "Finder Copy" file in the System Folder and Open it.
4. Select the timeout you want using the radio buttons. Select OK.
5. Open the System Folder and drag the "Finder" file out onto the DeskTop. Rename the "Finder Copy" file to "Finder". Close the System Folder.
6. Restart your Mac. After the restart, you can throw the original Finder (which you moved onto the DeskTop) into the trash.
